Mulch mats are used when planting young trees in assocation with Acorns range of plastic mesh tree guards, tree shelters and spiral shelters. Mulch mats reduce the amount of weed growth around the base of the tree, limiting competition for water and nutrients between the tree and weeds.

Polythene mulch mats are widely accepted as an effective and low-cost mulching material and is normally anchored by being buried along its edges.

Spun-bonded Polypropylene mulch mats are water permeable, and unlike woven polypropylene their edges will not fray when cut, however it must not be allowed to flap.

Woven Polypropylene mulch mats are probably the best photodegradable mulching material we offer. They are water permeable, easily pegged using our plastic anchor pegs and much stronger than either polythene or spun-bonded polypropylene mulch mats.
