SHELTERGUARD Tree Shelters

SHELTERGUARD tree shelters are the top of the range protection guards for trees and shrubs. SHELTERGUARD tree shelters protect trees from browsing animals including rabbits and deer. The plastic mesh SHELTERGUARD material is manufactured by coextruding a laminate of 12mm square plastic netting and a clear polyethylene film lining. The film laminate gives the tree guard added shelter, allows light to penetrate and acts like a greenhouse encouraging good strong early tree growth. The material has been specifically designed to photodegrade in a two stage process, with the polythene lining breaking up first once the tree is established enough to no longer require the shelter environment. This leaves a free draining netting tree guard to continue to provide support and browsing protection. The polythene lining is designed to break-up within 3 years, helping to harden trees on more exposed sites, though the netting has a life expectancy of 5 to 7 years.

SHELTERGUARD's two stage design makes the tree shelters more versatile than traditional solid tubes, with the higher light transmission producing stronger and more balanced growth.

Options:

Ventilated
SHELTERGUARD

The polythene lining on all SHELTERGUARD can be microperforated to provide some ventilation, to reduce humidity and temperature and maintain carbon dioxide levels within the tube. Ventilation is particularly recommended for beech which can suffer in an enclosed tube.

Oxo-biodegradable SHELTERGUARD

We have now developed a fully oxo-biodegradable version of our SHELTERGUARD material. View our webpage for oxo-biodegradable tree shelters.

Alternative Colours

The standard SHELTERGUARD colour is olive green but we can also manufacture the material in brown or black to order.
